About Me
I’m Yu-xiao DAI (pronounced like You-shall DIE. No kidding), currently a postgraduate student concentrated in cosmology and astrophysics at the Department of Physics, New York University.
In 1994, I was born in the city of Xi’an – starting point of the Silk Road – where the eastern civilization once culminated around 800 AD. The city, which was known as Chang’an in ancient time, is amongst the oldest in China, with more than 6,000 years of history. A long history is always a nice thing to say whenever you introduce your hometown to outlanders, but practically it means not so much for the development of an individual, and may sometimes even be a burden.
Our family left the degenerate capital and moved to Beijing-the current capital of the People’s Republic-in the year of 1998. I was brought up and influenced by a bunch of graduate students (including my father) at Peking University, where I spent almost my entire childhood. Their aspiration and activeness in social affairs truly touched my youthful heart.
It was more or less an accident that I had to travel to southern part of the country to pursue my college degree at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, which was a very young educational institute, as young as I was, and of course with much childishness and naïvety.
In 2014, I embarked on the graduate course offered by New York University, which by any means is a better place.
This short passage only serves its purpose as a record lest I forget in the future about some most fundamental aspects regarding me as a social being. However, nothing happened in the past deserves a bit of my regret or complacency, as greater voyages are always ahead of me. Let bygones be bygones.
